Tuesday, January 17, 2012 - San Diego Safari Zoo

Tuesday, January 17, 2012 - San Diego Safari Zoo
This is the third time I've made it to the Safari Zoo in Escondido, and I have enjoyed it every time.  It truly puts our Hogle Zoo to shame.  The pictures are completely out of order and I have lost my patience to shuffle through them.

Below are the MANY elephants that they had roaming about.  It was amazing to see all of these elephant families and their babies.  Watching the elephants was one of my personal favorites.

In the picture below are a kid, a baby, a mom, and a teenager.

After the elephants we waited for the cheetah run.  It was pretty cool to watch a cheetah run 300 yards in 5.6 seconds.

I was so looking forward for  the girls to have a chance to feed the larakeets.  I remember how exciting and fun it was to have these colorful birds drink nectar right out of your hand.

Well....the birds did not hesitate to get the nectar.  In fact, they kind of attacked those little cups.  Even though the girls were not holding the nectar, the birds were flying everywhere!  As you can see, the girls LOVED the experience!

The zoo was full of old people the day that we were there.  There were these two ladies in with us that must have thought Austin and I were the worst parents. While the girls were freaking out, we were laughing....and trying to comfort them of course.

We stayed until closing, but before we left we had to get a couple of shots with the statues.

We left the zoo at 5pm when it closed and headed up to Anaheim.  We didn't even think about traffic.  Needless to say, it took a bit longer than anticipated.  When we finally got to the hotel, we let the savages girls run wild.

Seriously, they were jumping off the walls.

Back to the zoo....

Our first stop was at the Gorilla's.  Look close and you can see the mom holding her 6 month-old baby.

We stayed and watched them eat their lunch....it was amazing!

Waiting for the tram to start.  These pictures are so out of order and I am too grumpy right now to fix them.

Back to the gorillas....the baby is in the center of the photo...SO CUTE!

Momma holding her baby.

And we're back on the tram

Tylar checking out some lions

Playing in the splash pad.  Tylar had a blast getting wet...too bad it was only 60 degrees.  Unfortunately, I didn't bring her a change of clothes.  Fortunately I did, however, bring an extra pair of 18 month pants for Siri that fit Tylar.  They were a bit short, but fit like a perfect pair of capri's.

After this episode we saw the elephants, then the cheetah run, statues, then hotel.  The end.
