July 10, 2010 - WJHS 10 Year Reunion

July 10, 2010 - I started the day with planning and carrying out a primary activity, going to a baptism, and then our class reunion. Now I can say, IT'S OVER...HOORAY! We had our ten year class reunion and I couldn't be more happy that it is over. Dave Clawson, who was the Senior Class President back then, asked if I would help out. Little did we know at the beginning of all this it would end up just being the two of us...oh well, it's done. I won't say much about it other than I hope everyone who was able to attend had a good time. I put in countless hours trying to find everyone, and was pretty successful. Of the 700 we graduated with, I contacted 500 of them. Unfortunately, a very small number of the 500 who knew about it actually came. What did that mean? That meant that Dave and I lost about $650 each. It is just money after all, right? That is what I kept telling myself. Good heavens, if this is as rough as life can get, I'll take it! The day following the reunion I kept thinking of Elder Ballard and his costly experience of being the one and only Ford Edsel dealer in the Salt Lake valley. Little disappointments like these, although not always fun, are good for you and you learn from them and then move on. It was nice to see faces from the past and I wish them all the very best! Best of all, I will never be doing this again :)

Me and my Aussie! I love this handsome boy!

Ms. Mitchell is the best! Her never ending support and friendship is truly amazing!

Some of the old high school peeps.

Here is a view of the Gathering Place during the event. It actually looked like a pretty good turn out, we just needed an additional 40 people come and we would have broke even. I honestly thought we would have no problem getting people to come out, but unfortunately I was wrong. During the planning process, we took into consideration what the class of 1998 and 1999 did so we could have a general idea of what to expect. Both of those years had their reunions at the Gathering Place, charged more per ticket than we did, and they had 200+ people attend. I thought for sure we would have more than enough come (especially because I was able to find and let so many know about it). We also had the comedian Johnny Biscuit come. I thought it would be nice to do a little something different for those who didn't really know anyone (i.e. spouses). Unfortunately, he was just mildly entertaining, but what's done is done. Anyhow, all in all, we only had about 115-120 come to the event. It's never "fun" to fail, but I cannot begin to express how grateful I am that it is OVER! During the reunion I made sure to go around to every table and thank everyone individually for coming. I don't think those who did come understood how truly grateful I was, personally, that they were there! A lot of those who weren't able to make it had family engagements or financially couldn't do it and I totally understand. Again , I hope those who came had a nice time.

My Mom and Dad watched the girls for the evening and they had a great time! They got to go to the ice cream store (Leatherby's) and the pet store (no animals were purchased, thank goodness!) We got back home around 10:30 pm and Aniston was wired. We sat and talked with Mom and Dad for a bit, all the while Aniston was spinning around the room with her arms tucked up inside her shirt. Before too long, she got dizzy and crashed right into the corner of the dresser in the living room. It was super loud! I quickly picked her up and couldn't see any immediate damage. We sat on the couch and all of the sudden I could see drops of blood on the couch but had no idea where it was coming from. As you can see below, she had a 1/4 - 1/2 inch cut in her head. It wasn't terribly wide, but definately borderline stiches. We called Aunt (ER nurse) Savanah to get her two cents. After explaining what it looked like and how Aniston was acting (which was totally fine) she said she would probably be fine. In the end, we didn't go to the ER, she was just fine, and so ended a bang-up day!

Oh I am a horrible friend (if I can still be called that). I never got back to you to let you know that Jon was out of town for the weekend and we couldn't make it. I'm sorry it didn't turn out as expected but thanks for putting it together anyways:) You are amazing! Hopefully you can forgive my flaky self!
